Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with video content and blogs on the representations of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards for her work. She is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate about gender roles within popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women and the way they are portrayed in popular media. She also is working to increase awareness about the online abuse directed towards females and other minorities of society. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Political and Social Thought with a degree from York University, is also popular as a public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Since her early years, Sarkeesian was fascinated by questions of gender identity as well as feminist thought. In her final year at university, in 2009 she created the Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series on gender representation within video games, and was herself the victim for an online harassment campaign. This attack didn't stop her from pursuing the project, and instead reinforced her determination as feminists who criticize media. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for women's rights, she's been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that investigates the way women are represented in pop media narratives.
